Coming up with a domain name can be difficult.  Your domain name must reflect the theme of your website or company.  At the same time, it must be simple, catchy and easy to remember.  Once you have an idea for the name of your domain, you have to register it with a domain name registrar such as, or

Prices vary from site to site but generally run approximately $10 per year. There are some sites however that charge significantly more than that.

Before you register the domain name however, you must check if it’s available.  The domain name registrar or provider will let you know if the name is available.  If it is not yet taken, you can register the domain and use it for your website.  Otherwise, you must find another name.  Some sites will offer suggestions for variations of the name.  Try out different domains until you find one that meets your needs.

If the domain you want has already been registered, you may be able to purchase it from the person or company who currently “owns” the domain. There are people who register domains for the purpose of selling them to interested buyers. If you go this route, expect to pay significantly more to acquire your domain. Prices can run from a couple hundred dollars into the thousands. It all depends on your budget and how competitive the market is your trying to get into.

A quick search on the internet will reveal many sites that offer existing domain names for sale.  In some instances, aged or expired domains are offered on the internet by resellers who have a database of domain names that have become available.

The right domain name could be the key to your success on the internet. Finding a memorable domain that is available however can be difficult. If you are fortunate enough to find a good domain, and it’s available, don’t delay. Register it right away. If you wait, you may be too late when you finally decide to register it later.
